Tim and Donna Borruel
Founders and Directors
Tim and Donna are the parents of three children and reside in the Santa Clarita Valley

Legacy Christian Academy was founded by local educators Tim and Donna Borruel. Tim has a Master of Science degree in Education with credentials in Secondary Education, Counseling and Administrative Services. He began teaching and coaching in the William S. Hart School District and was later promoted to Counselor, Dean of Students and Assistant Principal.

Donna Borruel, formerly a credentialed elementary school teacher in the Sulphur Springs School District, has taught almost every grade at the elementary level, including preschool. She obtained a B.A. with honors in Education and has an extensive background in early childhood development. She was the pioneer of Sunshine Child Care’s preschool curriculum and the elementary school curriculum at Legacy, which has been lauded for its academically-advanced distinctives and STEM programming.

Relying on their extensive background in education and commitment to creating better learning opportunities for local families, the couple fulfilled their dream of opening an academically-enriched and character-developing program for young children. The result: Tim "Coach” Borruel became the founder and executive director of seven Sunshine Child Care & Learning Centers in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The Borruels first began their proud history of excellence with Sunshine Day Camp in 1984; in 1988 they opened two after-school programs located on the elementary school campuses of Valencia Valley School and Pinetree Community School. In 1993, the couple opened their first full-service child care center serving 2-to-4 year olds. Sunshine’s private kindergarten commenced in the fall of 1995 and Sunshine Academy, now Legacy Christian Academy, opened in 1998.

This experience prepared them to cultivate a culture of achievement at Legacy – and local families quickly took note. First through sixth grades at Legacy Christian were subsequently added as satisfied parents voiced their interest in continuing their children’s elementary school education in the same strong academic environment. In 2008, Legacy launched its middle school for grades seventh and eighth to provide students with the best preparation for success in high school and beyond.

In 2008, Legacy Academy became Legacy Christian Academy, dedicated to the pursuit of academic excellence and the development of Christian character. Legacy’s campus is a place where children benefit from an exceptional educational experience in a culture that exalts Jesus Christ.
