The Legacy Approach to Mathematics:

"The universe stands continually open to our gaze, but it cannot be understood unless one first learns to comprehend the language and interpret the characters in which it is written. It is written in the language of mathematics, and its charater are triangles, circles, and other geometric figures, without which it is humanly impossible to understand a single word of it: without these, one is wandering about in a dark labyrinth" - Galileo

Mathematics

Legacy's math program thoroughly teaches concepts across the five strands of mathematics: number sense; algebra and functions; measurement and geometry; statistics, data analysis, and probability; and mathematical reasoning. Students are not only taught the processes of mathematics, but also the higher level thinking skills needed to approach complex problems.

Legacy emphasizes mastering basic arithmetic facts early in elementary school. Simple computation becomes automatic, and students can then focus on the application of skills and problem solving. Teachers introduce concepts with visual aids to help students build strong conceptual understanding.

The Legacy math curriculum meets and exceeds the Common Core Content Standards for math education. Since students are grouped according to instructional level, teachers are able to extend and enrich learning through comprehensive projects and targeted instruction. Emphasis is placed on understanding the relationships between math concepts such as decimals, fractions, and proportions. In middle school, pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry classes are offered.
