Legacy and Sunshine Preschool

Legacy Christian Academy is directly affiliated with Sunshine Child Care & Learning Center’s preschool program.  In fact, Legacy is an outgrowth of Sunshine’s preschool.  Both Sunshine and Legacy were founded by Tim and Donna Borruel and share the same academic philosophies.  

At the request of a committed group of parents in 1995, the Borruels began Legacy as a private kindergarten, an extension of Sunshine’s well-respected preschool program. The first through eighth grades were subsequently added to Legacy as satisfied parents voiced their interest in continuing their children’s elementary and middle school education in the same strong academic environment.  

Sunshine Child Care & Learning Centers currently has two preschool sites:

Sunshine has been operating half and full day preschools since 1987. The goal of this program is to prepare children for kindergarten. This is accomplished through Sunshine's unique "Three Components of Learning" program:

-Socialization
The classroom is an ideal environment for children to learn how to cooperate and share with their peers. Whether it be learning to cooperatively build a house with wooden block or playing imaginative games on the playground, children are encouraged to work together in a positive and considerate way.

-Academics
Children are gradually taught simple academic concepts such as shapes and colors, and then move on to numbers, alphabet letters and sounds, and writing their very own names! Creative teachers teach these concepts visually, auditorally, and kinesthetically. The secret ingredient to our success in this area is creativity and fun.

-Character
We believe that children should also learn about the dos and don'ts of life. Character is built into the very fabric of the curriculum. Children are encouraged to be respectful, kind, polite, honest and fair. When they display these traits, they receive praise, praise, praise! Sunshine teachers work very closely with parents in reinforcing these positive character traits in the children.
